That's God Talking

(Dawn Kenney)
That's God Talking

My Granddaddy, he was a quiet man
wouldn't waste his breath, if he had nothing good to say.
Not a church-goer and one day I asked him
why he never came with Grandma and me.

He said, “Granddaughter, a church is a building
made of wood and nails forged by hand
And that preacher, he's full of talking
and half of what he's saying I don't understand.

“But I look around me and that's where I find it
in the glistening of the morning dew.
You hear that bird sing, now that's God talking
It's in your eyes that light in you.”

Then he reached right down and took my little hand
and we went out walking so I could see.
He said “The woods, that's my church,
and we're all connected—that sky above you
and the earth beneath your feet.”

Just look around you and that's where you’ll find it
in the glistening of the morning dew.
You hear that bird sing, now that's God talking.
It's in your eyes that light in you.

In the early morning, the world is peaceful
when the Dawn is breaking that's when I go
and I can feel it, when my heart is open
God walks beside me. And this I know.

Because I just look around me and that's where I find it
in the glistening of the morning dew.
You hear that bird sing, now that's God talking
It's in your eyes that light in you.

You hear that bird sing, now that's God talking
It's in your eyes that light in you.
